[he rubs one hand up and down Bruno's back, idly. he seems a little tired, but otherwise calm enough. reconciling with Chiaki earlier took a decent amount of weight from him, as did hanging his papers on the tree]

And yes, I suppose it did. ... Come on, let's sit on the couch. More comfortable than standing here.

[there's a cosy little fire burning in the large fireplace, and the balcony French doors are open, curtains billowing lightly in a soft breeze that's just cool enough to make the fire inviting]

People get hostile over the weirdest things here. [Peter as a teenager is used to a hostile internet, but when it's this small of a population it's a lot more personal.] So, asking them is going to be a really delicate thing.

[Peter sees the latke theft, and just laughs softly at it. He's happy Norman enjoys them.]

[Norman squints as he takes the soft little creature from Peter's hands: he's obviously curious, a little perplexed, but generally pleased as he looks at the grouchy little gray face.]

You did this on your own? Peter, this is fantastic. All this clever little stitching, and -

[he turns it over, puzzled. rainbow fabric? maybe Peter ran out of gray. then he realizes that something else can be done here, and fiddles with the axolotl until it turns inside out. the wonder and joy on his face are as clearly projected as though he were Peter's own age, or even younger.]

Oh my God, it - HA! Look at that! Oh, lookit - that is so great. Where in the world did you come up with something like this?

And then on the other side of the coin - [he's speaking around a mouthful tucked back into his cheek, knowing full well that a teenager isn't going to mind if he has poor manners] - they take such bizarre things in stride. I'm not sure I'll ever get used to it.

You're right, though, of course. I should go back through the network and check if there were any volunteers Moira spoke with when she made her own request. That might at least give me a place to start.

Yeah! Ben and I used to make some stuff like this together. Also helps that I kinda had practice with Otto's and got better with yours. [One or two bits of stitching are lopsided and strange in spots all signs of someone still figuring out what they're doing.

The teenager releases a soft amused sound at Norman figuring out the flip so quickly. Seeing Norman look so genuinely happy eases the teenager immediately. The tension he's been carrying disappears for the moment.]

It kinda just came to me? I thought it'd be cool y'know? So you get two stuffed animals at once kinda.

[for a moment, it's clear by Norman's expression that he wants to argue it - encourage Otto to work on his own projects, get back in the scientific saddle. but he swallows it down, and simply nods, conceding.]

Well, you know yourself best, after all. Don't let me tell you how to spend your money, magic or otherwise.

Makes me miss New York, at least if people were hostile you had some idea as to why. Opposed to you said something casually they took super wrong or said something accidentally controversial about their god. [Peter understands New York perfectly, fellow monsters less so.]

It'd honestly be a fair place to start. Then you can message the people on that post.

[Collectively the two are making headway in getting the latkes put away.]

It's fantastic, I love him. He can keep me company in my workspace.

[Peter peers into his backpack, pulling out the shirt.] I made this for you too. Well, the design I mean, not the shirt. I don't really know how to make shirts.

[He extends the shirt out to Norman, hopeful the man will laugh at the terrible joke written across the front.]

What - you didn't have to -

[and then he reads it and does, indeed, laugh.]

O.M.G - I know that one. That's terrific.

[Norman takes it from Peter and turns it around, holding it up to his shoulders to check the fit]

Perfect size, too. At this rate I'm eventually going to have a collection.

[he'll bring it to Tawna to tailor for him to accommodate the spider legs as soon as he can. in the meantime he folds it carefully and sets it by the axolotl so he can lean in and give Peter another hug]

Thank you so much, Peter, this - this means more to me than I can really put words to.

[The reaction is enough to make Peter laugh softly himself, he further relaxes visibly. He's still to some degree used to giving gifts to May. Things are- were different with her. He always knew relatively well how a gift would go over with May.

New people being folded into the family means, new things to learn.] I thought it would be cool if you had another science pun shirt. I- made a physics one for Otto too. Even if he's more a turtleneck guy.

[The teenager returns the hug readily, just happy for the shift in mood. Happy that things are kind of working out.] I mean, if we all have science shirts, it's just a cool thing we do, right-? Opposed to a collection?

Why can't it be both?

[he's still grinning broadly, and actually gets up, unbuttoning his shirt]

I'm going to put it on right now. ... You're right, though, I don't think I've seen Octavius in a t-shirt since college. Then again, I don't think I'd worn any since college, myself, so. You're doing the world a service. Making us both be a little more casual now.

[Peter is now privy to the cursed knowledge that Dad #2 is Surprisingly Ripped even off formula, sorry, Peter. at least he only has a moment to process the new fact before Norman wriggles into his new t-shirt like a kid at Christmas]

[Peter releases a soft amused sound at the fact Norman is changing now. The teenager is happy of that much.

Wow, Norman is weirdly ripped. Peter blinks a little, but the thought drops out of his head fairly quickly.]

With how much stuff goes wrong here, being casual is probably way more comfortable. Less chance of like shedding all over anything nice.

Exactly. Not only that, but ... I think I've worn enough suits and ties for a while. Don't get me wrong, if I do get Oscorp going and it manages to make traction, I'll still have plenty of cause for formality, but until then?

[he straightens the t-shirt and strolls over to the pierglass mirror to look at it, proudly]

I think this is a good new look for me.

[Peter closes up his backpack, shifting to wipe at his eyes one last time as Norman looks himself over. The teenager is tired, but... The promise of doing something with the older man is enough to keep him going.]

Yeah, I think so too. New look, new you, right? [He rubs at his snout, starting to groom himself without much thought.] I like to think we can redefine ourselves whenever we want, if that's not dumb to say anyway.

I like that.

[he gathers up his plush and the wrapping]

Shall we go have some fun, then? You and I, our newer selves?

Yeah! Lets- go. [Peter brightens at Norman's acceptance of his sentiment as much as he does about their outing to be.]

I think we both deserve to have some real fun.

This is way out of the blue, but, I wanted to tell you I put all the work you commissioned from me on your front step. It's out of the way of the elements, promise. I included a few extra pieces I was making for you anyway. It's a bad habit of mine, too many projects.

I also figured I'd tell you, I'm going on a trip. Just out of town for a while. To gather my thoughts. Crash and I broke up. So, I just... need the time. You're my friend, so I wanted to keep you in the loop.

[he's at Oscorp working on refining the formulas from Haftesal when the message comes through, so it takes a minute for him to wash his hands and make sure everything is stable and at a point where he can leave it unattended before responding]

I was thinking of inviting some friends, and of course anyone at the house is gonna be welcome to, too. I say if you feel up to it, there's no harm in it. We can always freeze what doesn't get eaten or send it home with people. I need to stop by the bookstore on my way home and get some cookbooks. Are there any other dishes you'd want to try and have? Something Ned's ... Lala used to make?

[The use of Lala instead of Lola makes Peter laugh, but the teenager takes it in stride.]

I'll see if Chiaki and Beat are free, but they're both probably already got plans in place. They have a zillion friends.

Ned's Lola and his mom made a lot of the food. It was stuff I don't super know how to cook though? I watched her make Liempo. That in theory could be okay? Way easier to achieve than some of the other stuff Lola did.

It's like grilled pork belly marinated in soy sauce and another sauce I can't remember right now.

Well, if those friends aren't doing anything, they're welcome, too: I was going to invite Joshua, Souda, and Sousa, anyway.

What are you up to right now? I was finishing up this phase of tests at the lab... we could meet up and look for cookbooks together?
