Engaging in that sort of behavior is exactly what they wanted, I think. Where I come from, there was a terrorist attack in my home city, a little over a year ago. Very much the same thing happened, and my opinion remains the same as it did then: if you give in to fear and anger when something like this happens, then they gain the upper hand and the result they were looking for.
The best response to displays like that is to help the people affected by them and give the instigators as little fuel as possible. If you deny them your fear, you deny them power.
